Making Your Cut Flower Arrangements Last Really Long

You just got a large number of flower bouquets for your anniversary, and don’t know how to keep them from withering away in a couple of days? With a little bit of flower care, you can make your flowers last for an extended period of time.

Fresh flowers are the perfect way to convey a variety of messages. You can convey a whole lot of emotions with flowers. Flowers that have thick petals are known to remain fresh for a longer period of time, needing less flower care. This is because they tend to hold moisture inside them better than those with thinner petals, which tend to wilt quickly. Flowers with thicker and waxier petals are therefore the first choice for many occasions including weddings. Similarly flowers with thicker leaves are also known to last much longer when compared to others, reducing the flower care you need to take for them.

If you are thinking of placing flowers inside a vase, then it is preferable that you cut their stems before doing so. This will ensure that they remain fresh for the whole day, as cut stems ensure better absorption of water. Flower care actually consists of looking into these types of details, some of which may seem very trivial but can actually make a lot of difference.

Another important step in flower care consists of not keeping flowers near any heat emitting appliance. Flowers should always be kept away from strong lights, ovens and direct sunlight.

It is always recommended that you go in for full blooms since they tend to last longer. Tropical flowers are another good choice if you cannot find enough time for flower care, since they are sturdy flowers which do not wilt too easily under heat.

Another useful tip in cut flower care is to add half a tablet of Asprin to the flower vase to increase the life of the cut flowers. This dilates the vessels of the flowers in much the same way as asprin dilates blood vessels in humans, thus increasing water absorption and improving the life of that lovely orchid or zinnia flower bouquet.

If you are looking to buy flowers, the internet provides a good and convenient way of shopping. One good online source I am personally very fond of is www.americanfloraldistributors.com. They have a large variety of fresh cut flowers of all hues and colors, and each bloom is so beautiful it just takes your breath away! They even offer all kinds of home delivery, with free home delivery for every order over $200, which is something I found very useful while ordering large quantities of fresh cut flowers.

After they are cut, some flowers just don’t last long and there isn’t too much you can do. The best thing is to cut them early in the morning when they are freshest. Cut the bottoms again when you get them in the house. Cut roses under water so that you don’t lose the water bubble at the bottom of the stem that lets them take in water. Change the water every day and cut a little bit off the stems. It does help to add a small bit of an aspirin to the water too. And keep the arrangement out of direct sunlight.

Cut a bit off the stems under running water before you put them in the vase. And I understand that aspirin dissolved in the water helps too.

    Good luck!
